History
Black Rock Football Club celebrated its centenary season last year after it was founded in 1908.
The Rockers are today well known for their red and black "Bomber" colours, but initially wore a straight black jumper with white shorts & socks then changed to navy blue with a red V just like the Demons, when it switched leagues (MAFA) in the late 20's. The club will participate in Division 2 of the Southern Football League in 2009, which it has been affiliated with since 1986, and will play home games and train (6pm Tuesday & Thursadys) at Donald McDonald Reserve Black Rock.
After a number of runners-up positions, Black Rock cracked it for their first Premiership flag in 1927 & only a short wait til 1935' where we went back to back in 1936'. A fourth flag was put on the mantlepiece in 1954’. Two further Premierships came the clubs way in 1980’ and 1984’.
Following two heart breaking defeats to Hampton & Canterbury in consecutive Grand Finals ('02 & '03), The Rockers took out their 8th senior flag in 2004’ with a victory over Moorabbin after an inspirational pre game speach from 'Lethal' Leigh Matthews .
The last 5 years has seen a changing of the guard from both an on field & off-field point of view, with a newly formed committee given the reigns & some new faces on the famous Donald McDonald reserve of a winter Saturday.
Season 2008 , saw the club head back into Div- 2 of the SFL after a memorable 2007 coming out premiers on the final saturday in September, after scores were level at the final siren, extra time was needed to split the sides with a thrilling 1 point win to the mighty Rockers' over Mt Waverley at Mordialloc oval.
